Can HHD lesions appear in the mouth or vulva?

Epithelial cells cover - or line - all surfaces of the body. Epithelial cells are divided into subgroups that include:

  • Epidermal cells - covering the skin
  • Mucosal cells - that cover the surface of the mouth, vulva, oesophagus and conjunctiva (basically the 'wet' bits).

We know that HHD lesions can appear on the skin - but can they also appear in other epithelial cell types?

From the scientific literature it would seem that mucosal involvement is rare, but has been reported in the mouth, vulva, esophagus and conjunctiva. A list of references reporting these outbreaks are listed below in case you want to read more.
